Happy Mother's Day!!

When Neil asked what I would like to do for Mother's day I knew I wanted to go some where. My co-worker had mentioned that Southwick's Zoo lets Moms in for free on Mother's day so we made a plan and asked Grandma Nancy to join us. Grandpa Kevin, Maggie, Andy and Matt came too!

We arrived before Grandma and Grandpa so we spent a while looking at the animals near the entrance. Grace was not impressed with the kangaroos or the wallabies, but loved the tortoise. We checked back with them several times and even made sure to say good bye.

We checked out the various birds and monkeys before headed to the petting zoo area. The petting zoo is really a bunch of small goats that accost you for bits of corn you get out of a gumball machine. A little overwhelming for someone shorter than the goats. Grace tried feeding them, but I think she preferred to watch when they weren't swarming her. I'm pretty sure that everybody else enjoyed feeding the goats too.

It was pretty cute when we noticed that Grace was walking along just like Uncle Matt.

After the fun and excitement of feeding swarming goats what could be more fun? How about feeding pushy deer? Grace seemed to enjoy feeding the deer probably because there was less of them and she could sit protected. By the end she was trying to feed them a piece of corn at a time. Even picking up a piece that the deer missed and bring it to her.

After lunch Grace finally got to go to the part of the zoo she had been trying to get to all day -the rides!

The Merry-Go-Round was first and she had a blast with Daddy. Every time they came around she had waves and smiles.

Next was the car ride. Mommy didn't realize that there wasn't enough room in the car ride for Daddy. As he finish buckling her in, visions of Grace trying to climb out as the ride was moving danced in my head. When Daddy started to walk away from Grace she had a look of panic, I thought the ride would be all over. But she didn't cry; in fact, she loved it and didn't cry until Daddy pulled her out. Even though she laughed, smiled and hammed it up for the crowd I still worried with every lap that she would try to escape, but she didn't. Such a big girl.

Then we moved on to the Bear ride which went up in the air. Honestly, I could barely watch. Grace loved it.

A little ice cream and a trip to the playground with Andy and Maggie, and much to my surprise it was almost 4:00. I am still amazed that we made it that long with out a meltdown. What a trooper. As we were leaving, I loved when Grace caught Grandpa Kevin by surprise and called him Poppa.

What a great day! I can't remember what we did last Mother's Day, but I'm pretty sure I won't forget this one.

Grace was asleep about 5 minutes after we left.
