At last the birthmark is gone. We got up at 5:30 this morning to be at the UMass day surgery center for 6:30. We were a little early, but quickly brought back to the area with all of the other people waiting for their surgeries. I question the need for us to be there at 6:30 as we just sat there until after 7. Grace took it all in stride until people wanted to poke at her, but who can blame her? She wouldn't even let the nurse put the ID braclet on her. A cup of magic cherry juice fixed that. She didn't even mind the nurse that carried her away around 7:40. The doctor came out to the waiting room about 30 minutes later and said everything went fine. Ten minutes later they sent us back to the recovery area to find a very sad Grace. She did not like the stuff on her hands. She had a heart monitor on the finger of one hand and bandages on the other holding on an IV. Once these things were removed, the nurse was out of sight, and juice applied, Grace was feeling better, but still very sad. As quickly as we could we got her dressed and out the door. We were in the car and on our way home by 9:30.
At home Grace was still wobbly. More juice and Cheerios helped, but it wasn't until she went off with Daddy upstairs and read a big pile of stories that she seemed to start to get back to her old self. After lunch and a nap you wouldn't even know that anything happened this morning. We didn't even have to give her Tylenol for pain.
The stiches come out in a week. I'll save you the picture of what it looks like at the moment. Let's just say that the bandage covering the stiches is gross. Grace was a trooper today and we are very proud of her.
